Proposed Bylaw Changes

Burt Phillips, Chair

All of the 2012 Propositions were adopted at the Annual Meeting.  We continued this year to see well prepared delegates who clearly had taken their responsibilities to heart.  October 19th was a day to remember for its civility and decorum.  We can all rejoice at that.

Now—three days later as I pen this report—my thoughts go to the next season of bylaw work.  Where will it lead?  Your Bylaws Committee has worked diligently in recent years to ferret out inconsistencies and confusing wording and we believe you now have a well-crafted set of bylaws that should be able to stand for a time.  Of course, I felt pretty much that way last year at this time, and look what happened J   Well–it’s just like being back in the classroom: “monitor and adjust…  Deal with it.”
Here’s a new topic: be advised that the current bylaws and the updated handbook of policies and procedures—the Leaders’ Manual—are on the website.
And last but certainly not least, I will miss working with Al Buell of CWZ and CZ’s Johnnie Jones, who have departed the committee, but I’m very pleased to have two continuing stalwarts–Zone Bylaws Chairs Diane Hahn (CR) of EZ and Helen Hoering of SEZ.  Additionally, I know that NEZ’s Bylaws Chair Gary Germain will be an enthusiastic and productive member and am absolutely thrilled that SZ’s bylaws guru and immediate past president, Jim Parsons (CR), was willing to bring on board his wisdom and vast experience.
